Tolland Bank
On April 30, 1841, Jeremiah Parish and others submitted a petition to legislation requesting a charter to establish a mutual savings bank, which was granted. Both banks conducted business in the same building "on the green", with the Savings Bank of Tolland renting space from Tolland County Bank.
July 2003, Tolland Bank announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to merge with New Haven Savings Bank (NHSB). In a separate release dated July 16, 2003, New Haven Savings Bank announced its intention to convert from a mutual savings bank to a stock savings bank and simultaneously merge with Alliance Bancorp of New England, Inc., holding company for Tolland Bank, and Connecticut Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ:SBMC), holding company for the Savings Bank of Manchester. The transactions are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2004. Future proxy statements and other relevant documents will be filed with the SEC and made available to shareholders of Alliance for their consideration and vote.

First County Bank
On September 20, 1851, The Stamford Savings Bank opened its doors for business on Main Street. Hezekiah Satterlee opened Account Number 1 with $5. The Stamford Savings Bank began as a mutual savings bank to safeguard and invest the money of Stamford's residents as well as make loans for the construction and purchase of homes. This new institution was to have no stock and its profits were to be paid to depositors in dividends or held in reserve for their greater security. This definition of a mutual savings bank holds true today.
